Gold Pendant with Carthaginian Coin
This pendant features a bronze coin minted during the Carthaginian occupation of Sicily, between 220 and 215 BC, in the time of the great general Hannibal. Carthage was the most developed empire in the Western Mediterranean for centuries, but its conflict with the rising power of Rome in the Punic Wars would lead to its defeat and eventual disappearance.
The coin depicts a bust of Tanit, the most important goddess in Carthaginian mythology, who was also the deity of the island of Ibiza. On the reverse side, a horse and a palm tree are shown.
In our workshop we have designed and handcrafted for it a 18K gold setting that protects and embellishes it, and converts it into a unique jewel more than 2200 years later. Our antiques are always genuine, never replicas and are delivered with a certificate of authenticity.
