Delphi Pendant
18K gold pendant in the shape of a Greek shield. It is engraved with the phrase "Gnóthi Seautun," which means "Know Thyself." This aphorism, attributed to the Seven Sages of Greece, was inscribed on the Temple of Apollo at Delphi in the 5th century BCE and served as advice to visitors in search of wisdom, signifying that we cannot aspire to know the world if we do not first know ourselves.
The shield is of the type known as "Dipylon," carried by Greek warriors in antiquity. It was a large shield that protected not only the soldier who wielded it but also the comrade by his side, which is why hoplite formations were very tight and fought closely together. This was one of the reasons for their military success and great victories.
This exclusive design by Fernando Gallego carries the meaning that knowledge makes us better and protects us, as well as those around us.
