Beetles (or scarabs) were very common amulets in Ancient Egypt, as they symbolized the renewal of life. Khepri, the scarab god, represented the rising Sun and provided protection against all evil during life. In death, it was essential to carry it to attain eternal life. The back of the scarab often bore an engraved prayer, names, or animal or geometric figures.
This amulet comes from the Second Intermediate Period, dated between 1782 and 1500 BCE, during the Hyksos domination. It retains the detailed carving of the beetle’s forms, including the legs and head. It is made of steatite, and on the back, it features an engraving with various anthropomorphic figures.
It has been acquired from a prestigious antiquarian and comes with its certificate of authenticity. Our antiques are always genuine, never replicas.
