Anubis, the Jackal God, is one of the oldest Egyptian deities. His role was crucial in reaching the Afterlife. He guided and helped the deceased transition to the next life by weighing their heart on a scale to determine whether they had been a virtuous person. In life, people wore his amulet for protection and to attract good luck.
The amulet is made of faience, a type of ceramic commonly used in that era, crafted from melted sand. It is dated between 654 and 525 BC (Late Period). Its state of preservation is excellent, except for the missing ear. It was acquired from a prestigious antiquarian and comes from a private collection. A certificate issued by the antiquarian confirming the authenticity of the piece is included.
In our workshops, we have handcrafted an 18k gold setting that enhances and protects it, restoring it—2,500 years later—to the function for which it was created. We have reconstructed the missing ear in gold. The bail is rotatable, allowing it to be worn facing forward or in profile. In this way, we unite our work with that of the artisan who crafted it in that distant time.
